When we started moving modules from legacy into Version 3.0 a few years ago, the goal was to provide schools with a cleaner interface and to simplify their day-to-day operations. We sought to improve the functionality and efficiency of Sycamore School for not only administrators, teachers, and staff members, but for families and students as well.

With that being said, when we launched Version 3.0, this gave us the tremendous opportunity to provide a web app for our users. The web app, which was designed to replace the mobile app, gives our users an updated version of the app that is user-friendly and compatible with the updated modules in Version 3.0.

What are some of the differences between the mobile app and web app?

One of the main differences and advantages of the web app is, unlike the mobile app, it is not device specific. Whether you’re on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, you can access it from any device by simply typing in sycamore.school in your web browser. This eliminates the burden in downloading or consistently updating apps on your device. Every time you log in, it will automatically be the most updated version.

Documents! One of the most consistent comments we’d hear from schools about the mobile app is that there isn’t a way to access documents. We took care of this problem by making documents widely available. Documents on the school homepage and classroom homepages can now be accessible via the web app. In addition, families can view their students’ documents to view report cards, attendance record documents, transcripts, etc.

Will the mobile app be deprecated?

Yes, there will come a time in the near future when we will deprecate and discontinue the mobile app. Our development team is no longer updating or developing the mobile app, so the sooner users can make that transition (if they haven’t already), the better off they’ll be.

This would be a great time for schools to encourage families and students to log in to the web app and explore all the features and modules they can conveniently access from any device.

What other features are available in the web app?

As we mentioned earlier, the advantageous aspect of the web app is that we have included every 3.0 module that we’ve released and made available. This includes Service, Medical, Facility, Admissions, and more! Another benefit of being able to access modules like Admissions on the web app means families can enroll and re-enroll their students from their mobile device, which was never a possibility on the mobile app. This accessibility was one of the many reasons why we developed the web app in the hopes of making users’ responsibilities easier and more efficient.
