Year-end Closeout Final Class Session to Complete School Year

Well, teachers, Sycamore would love to be the first to congratulate you on another successful school year! Whether this was your first year of teaching, or your 30th, surely the school year brought many ups and downs, as it always does.

No matter the roller coaster ride that a school year can be, however, it is imperative that at the end of the day, you all are making a difference in a student’s life. As a society, we are forever indebted to teachers for molding the minds of the future.

While teachers are finalizing grades and getting ready for the summer months, there’s just one more thing left to do on the Sycamore side. Super Users, I’m looking at all of you!

It is the job of at least one Super User at every school to complete the Year-end Closeout process before a new school year can begin. To briefly summarize the Year-end Closeout process, it is all about data. This process will guide you in a step-by-step process through finalizing, saving, and clearing out data. Once it is finished, your school will be ready to set up your site for the new year.

In the past, some Super Users have been a little leary about the Year-end Closeout process, and understandably so. Mentioning the words “clearing data” tends to scare some people off, but there really is nothing to be afraid of, as we will provide you a step-by-step process, and are with you all the way!

The first step is arguably the most important step: preparing. It’s extremely important that you ensure all data from the current school year has been entered and verified. This includes: attendance, report cards, graduates, transcripts, etc.

Once that step is complete, you reach another vital step: saving. This task consists of saving the data you wish to keep, like: attendance, class rosters, grades, etc . All of these files will remain in Sycamore for your retrieval at a later date.

Step three is all about clearing. In other words, this will allow you to clear some school year specific data that is not needed anymore. The first two steps gave you the opportunity to prepare and save this data, but now is your chance to clear out any data that is no longer essential in your school site.

Just like that, we have reached the final and fourth step: wrapping up. This step walks you through some final tasks and procedures before switching over to the new year. This can include: creating a new school year, setting up Admissions, populating classes, etc. We will also provide guidance and helpful instructions in this step as you set up your new school year.

Now, that doesn’t seem so bad, does it? Worry not if you’re still feeling unsure about the Year-end Closeout process.
